SESB: Papar can expect less blackouts
SABAH Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) completed replacing all broken insulator pins on the overhead high tension power lines in Papar on Aug 13.

Its spokeswoman, when contacted, said the maintenance work also included installation of barriers to prevent birds from resting on the equipment, apart from trimming tree limbs around power lines.

“These problems were contributing to the frequent blackouts in several areas including Kampung Kawari,” she said. She said an ongoing monitoring will be performed to ensure that voltage readings are at normal levels.

“We are always committed to improve power supply in the state and is working closely with other relevant authorities to ensure its smooth implementation,” she added.

A resident in Kampung Kawari demanded explanation from the utility firm about a series of power outage in that village and the cause of only a few electrical appliances can be used at one time, especially at night.

“I don’t remember the details quite well but it tripped for few hours recently and it happened again on the following day,” said CHAU, the resident.

He said the most recent outage occurred was on Aug 5, where it tripped around 8am and was not restored even after an hour.

“But when the supply was back on again I noticed some of the ceiling lights and electrical items in my house could not be operated.

“I didn’t dare to switch on the television, Astro decorder and air-conditioning system for fear that its internal circuitry will be damaged by the low voltage of power,” he added.

To make matters worse, he said his attempts to report the issue to the firm’s Careline at 1-5454 was futile.

“No matter how many times I called that number I could never had the chance to speak to their customer service representative because all their lines were always engaged,” he added.   (OV)
