Sports not just a hobby: Jonathan
RANAU: Sports today is not just for hobby and leisure but a healthy lifestyle and a lucrative investment in terms of health said Ranau MP, Jonathan Yasin.

“It is not impossible if today’s students who ran barefoot on the grass track to one day, with the guidance and the talents of the students will run in the international arena waving the flag of our country.

“Therefore, I urge that all schools to always support the intention of the Ministry of Education to always be responsive to the needs of students towards nurturing and developing talents who have tendencies to choose their career in any field of sports,” he said.

He said, continuous sports activities that are held in schools across the nation have even become one of the fortress that act as a barrier for students against engaging in unhealthy activities.

Jonathan who is also Malaysian Cocoa Board Chairman was speaking when officiating the 2-in-1 ceremony for the 15th Track and Field and Independence Month for SMK Ranau held at the school’s field recently.

Meanwhile, sports tournament is a platform for achieving the national vision in the culturalisation of sports among schoolchildren, he said..

“The culture of sports among students is to complement the excellence of the education system to produce human capital that is balanced and holistic in terms of physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual towards nation building.

“The field of sports is one of the best channels to produce students who are physically and mentally fit. Through a consistent and balanced training of the various aspects that includes mind, body, muscles, nerves and emotions.

“Sports are also capable of forming an active individual, abiding by the rules while at the same time forming an athlete that is virtuous, responsible, disciplined and have a strong identity and possess strong leadership,” he said.

Also present at the event were Principal Jamirin Sahamin, Senior Assistant Johalim Ishim, Form Six Senior Assistant Jailey Paidi, Senior Assistant Co-curiculum and Admin Latri Labugan, Senior Assistant HEM Halijah Jani and Vice YDP Naidin Yamou.
