Police in machete attack in stable condition

KOTA BARU: Besut District Police chief Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi is in stable condition in hospital, with his severed right thumb having been reattached, following a machete attack Thursday. This was disclosed Friday by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Mazlan Mansor who visited Mohd Zamri Friday at the intensive care unit of the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian.ADVERTISEMENT
He said doctors reattached Mohd Zamri’s severed right thumb in a 17-hour surgery after the attack by a mentally unstable man at 12.50 pm in front of the policeman’s house in Kampung Padang Luas, Besut.
“He (Mohd Zamri) is under the observation of the doctors,” he told reporters after visiting Mohd Zamri who was also injured in the back of the head in the attack.
Terengganu Police chief Datuk Aidi Ismail and Kelantan Police deputy chief SAC Abdullah Mohammad Piah also visited him.
Mazlan said the attack was by a mentally unstable man and there is no criminal element in the case.ADVERTISEMENT
Meanwhile, in BESUT, a 32-year-old man is under remand for seven days from Friday to assist in the investigation into a machete attack on Besut District Police chief Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi Thursday.
Magistrate Norshuzianna Shakila Raja Mamat issued the remand order to enable the police to conduct the probe under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

The police arrested the man at 4.15 pm yesterday at Felda Selasih, Besut, as he attempted to flee.
Mohd Zamri is under treatment at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian for injuries he sustained after he was attacked by a machete-wielding man, believed to be mentally unstable, in front of his house in Kampung Padang Luas.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
