KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tambadaus were beaten 1-2 by Pahang in the Group A Malaysia Cup tie at Likas Stadium, Saturday night.
Jelius Ating’s boys who lost their opening two away matches were unable to get their first point despite a much better effort from the players than their previous matches.

Two goals in the first half by the visitors were enough for them to win their third match of the competition and maintained their position at the top with maximum nine points.
Sabah, who needed to win to keep their quarterfinal dream alive, had a nightmare start when they conceded the first goal within two minutes at the start which was scored by Pahang’s import player Dickson Nwakaeme courtesy of some slack defending.
Fellow striking partner Lazarus Kaimbi then extended their lead in the 35th minute from a quick counter to take a 2-0 lead at half time.
Sabah still couldn’t find their rhythm at the restart until Aguinaldo Mendes pulled one back for Sabah in the 54th minute when he was at the right place and time to hit home from close range.

The goal seemed to motivate the players and they managed to take control of the match but despite their immerse pressure, with Alto Linus and Azizzan Nordin both had their free kicks saved by the Pahang goalkeeper, they were unable to break down the Pahang defence until the final whistle.
With the loss, the team remained bottom with no points and the two teams will meet again on August 24 at Stadium Darul Makmur, Kuantan in the second round ties before Sabah play host to Penang (September 14) and Perak (September 18) here at Likas Stadium.
