Council to  work with  YB on Tawau  fish market
TAWAU: The District Municipal Council will work closely with Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Datuk Jimmy Wong to overcome problems encountered by the Tawau fish market.

The problems included clogged drainage, cleanliness, leaking roof, dim lights, insufficient water pipes as well as tattered awning.

Tawau Fisheries Association Chairman Koh Teck Kiang sought permission from the Council to obtain a 20-year lease of the market pier management rights in order to indemnify their members.

“It is important for the association to have management rights to the Tawau fish market pier, so fishermen could load their fishery products,” he said.

The association also sought help from the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry to help upgrade facilities at the market pier, including roof installation.

Also present were Sri Tanjong Community Development Leader Koo Hung Eow, Tawau Municipal Council Deputy President Koh Kian Leong as well as the Council’s chief engineer Ir William Cheang and Councillor Liew Ching Yee.
