Turtle eggs: Businessman charged
KOTA KINABALU: A 52-year-old businessman who holds IMM13 document was charged with having 57 Green Turtle eggs without a permit.

Arman Amri pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, Tuesday.

He is accused of having the turtle eggs (Chelonia Mydas) which is protected and listed in the Division 1 Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Preservation Enactment 1997, without any permit.

Arman allegedly had the turtle eggs at 4pm on July 9 this year at the Crafts Market, here.

The offence under Section 41(1) of the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997 provides for a fine of between RM50,000, and RM250,000 or a jail term of between a year and five years, or both, upon conviction.

The court set Sept 30 for case management and no bail was offered to Arman.

Earlier, Prosecuting Officer Abdul Karim Dakog from the Wildlife Department objected to bail on the grounds that Arman is an IMM13 holder.

However, Arman who was not represented, asked for bail saying that he is suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure and depends on medication. –Cynthia D Baga
