KOTA KINABALU: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STARSabah) wants the authorities to immediately investigate the legitimacy of the Mobile registration program on registering of birth certificates and identity cards to be held in Semporna district on Aug 22 to 26, which was widely circulated on social media such as whatsapp and facebook recently.

StarSabah Chief Information, Jeffrey Kumin (pic) said in a statement on Tuesday that he also sought confirmation from the police and the National Registration Department (NRD) about the programme and if it had obtained permission from the NRD, the Police and other respective departments.

“I request that every registration programme on this birth certificate and identity card, opposition party representatives also be invited together to ensure that only those who are eligible are given valid documents.

“It also helps to reduce the frustration and anger of the local people about illegal activities carried out to illegal immigrants.

According to him, Bingkor State Assemblyman Robert Tawik had previously asked the NRD to hold the mobile programme in his constituency but was rejected.

Jeffrey also called on the authorities to impose tougher penalties on offenders such as their citizenship forfeited immediately, life imprisonment and whipping without unlimited age as a strong warning to those who intend to carry out this illegal activity in future.
