TAWAU: The body of a local was found under Bridge 5 of Kg Hidayat, Mile 4, Jalan Apas, here, on Wednesday.

He is believed to have fallen into the water after suffering a convulsion attack.

District Police Chief ACP Peter Umbuas identified the deceased as Herman Ismail, 25, whose fully clothed body was found around 6.20am by a villager who then alerted the police.

Umbuas said investigation showed the victim stayed at Kg Hidayat Hujung, which is about two kilometres away from where his body was discovered.

“The victim’s mother confirmed the victim is her son who failed to return home. She noticed he wasn’t home when she came home about 12.20am.

“Prior to the incident, the victim was said to be home alone that night while other family members were out at work... the victim’s mother went looking for him along the village’s bridge and nearby area but no to avail.

“She was informed about the discovery at 6.30am,” he added.

Umbuas said the mother told police that her son was a convulsion patient and believed that he might have fallen into the sea during a seizure between 12.15am and 6.28am.

He said no injuries or suspicious elements were found on the deceased’s body during initial inspection and the case has been classified as sudden death report (SDR).

A post-mortem conducted at the Tawau Hospital also confirmed that the cause of the victim’s death is due to drowning.
