Sabah Games qualifying rounds proceed smoothly

KOTA KINABALU: The Keningau Sabah Games qualifying rounds for five sports were successfully held in all six zones throughout the State from August 13-18.

Youth and Sports Minister Phoong Jin Zhe in a statement released on Thursday said that he was pleased to learn that netball, sepak takraw, football, volleyball and hockey were held smoothly without any hitches and on schedule.

“Thank you to all the athletes and officials involved in staging the competition and to ensure their success,” he said.

The Minister was also present during the football match between Kota Kinabalu and Penampang at Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex on the final day to understand the process of qualification.

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government continued its momentum in managing the economy in line with the commitment and spirit of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) when it posted record high state revenue of RM6.973 billion last year.

The zones that were involved in the qualifying rounds are West Coast South, Sandakan, Tawau, West Coast North, Upper Interior and Lower Interior.

Teams that made it in each of the sports to the finals to be staged in venues at Keningau, Tambunan, Tenom and Nabawan from December 7-13 are as follows:

Netball: Kota Kinabalu and Penampang, Kota Belud, Tongod, Lahad Datu, Tenom , Keningau , Sipitang.

Sepak Takraw (men): Papar and Kota Kinabalu, Kudat, Beluran, Tawau, Keningau and Tenom, Sipitang.

Sepak Takraw (women): Kudat, Tongod, Tawau, Keningau , Nabawan, Sipitang.

Sepak Takraw Regu (men): Kota Kinabalu, Papar, Kota Belud, Beluran, Semporna, Keningau, Tenom, Sipitang.

Sepak Takraw Regu (women): Papar, Kudat, Beluran, Tawau, Keningau, Nabawan, Sipitang.

Sepak Takraw Double (men): Ranau, Papar, Kota Belud, Beluran, Tawau, Keningau, Nabawan, Kuala Penyu.

Sepak Takraw Double (women): Papar, Kota Marudu, Tongod, Tawau, Keningau, Nabawan, Sipitang.

Football (men): Kota Kinabalu, Ranau, Kota Belud, Sandakan, Tawau, Keningau, Tenom, Sipitang.

Football (women): Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Kota Marudu, Sandakan, Tawau, Tambunan, Tenom.
