LABUAN: Yayasan Pembangunan Labuan (YPL) is venturing into real estate field and acquiring properties as part of its long-term economic development activities.Its Chairman Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman said the foundation must continue to be relevant to the local economic development, in line with its core principles to help Labuanites in various fields.ADVERTISEMENT
The five principles focuses on the areas of education, entrepreneurial, economic development, charity programmes and sports.
“We should be able to generate revenue to finance the five core principles of the foundation once we have acquired ownership of properties.
“We need to fine tune the existing principles to tailor them to the current local economic development needs to be able to generate revenue, which will subsequently open up employment and business opportunities to the locals,” he told reporters after presenting an appreciation certificate to the Labuan Media Practitioner Association, Friday.
Sukarti shared that the two investment arms of YPL, which is Labuan Holdings Sdn Bhd (in-charge of Labuan International Ferry Terminal) and the Pacific Samudera (City College management company), are performing at their best both in the respective areas of sea transport and education.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

“We still need sufficient funding, even for the City College we need additional funding to add more employability and marketable programmes to attract more students to pursue their studies there, especially the local students,” Sukarti added.
Meanwhile, Labuan Media Practitioner Association President Jainudin Djimin, said the media practitioners would constantly work together with all associations provided they have the objective of improving the local economy.
