Agri Ministry to continue training programme: Dr Daud

SANDAKAN: The State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry through the Sandakan Polytechnic Sabah (PSS) will continue to promote training programmes to produce competent youths and entrepreneurs in various fields.Assistant Minister to the Sabah Minister of Agriculture and Industry, Dr Daud Yusof, said the effort was not only important to meet the demand of skilled workers from the public and private sectors but also to generate potential entrepreneurs in agriculture.

“The agricultural resources in the state had the potential to be developed to a higher level in future. At the same time, there are a number of major sources of agriculture including land and fisheries that had not been fully explored.
“Therefore, efforts to improve the efficiency and productivity of the agricultural sector should continue to enable the sector to compete internationally.
‘The traditional smallholders need to be transformed into a modern, dynamic and commercial sector besides industrial development and agriculture-based processing,” he said at the opening of the Sabah Sandakan Polytechnic Open Day (PSS) 2019 with the theme ‘Agriculture Is Opportunity’ in Sandakan on Friday.
Also present were Deputy Director General (Governance) of the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Mohammad Amin Hamat and PSS Director Associate Lieutenant Colonel Tajul Ariffin Mohammed Arif.

Earlier in the speech, PSS Director Lieutenant Colonel Tajul Ariffin said that in enhancing the value of programmes in PSS, a joint venture with the relevant industries has been established.
He said the work and the design would have a positive impact on students’ academic achievement and relevance to current technology.

A ceremony was also held a cooperation certificate between PSS with two industries to share their expertise and facilities to achieve their goals in boosting the local economy and PSS.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The cooperation certificate was signed by Tajul Ariffin and Managing Director of the two industrial companies Fahmie Abu Bakar (Formeniaga Agrotech Sendirian Berhad) and Gerald Thomas Wong (GE Nitrate Solution).
The signing of the certificate of cooperation was witnessed by Daud.
