RANAU: Ranau MP Jonathan Yasin urged higher learning institutes in the State to review the subjects as well as courses offered in their respective establishments to ensure that they are relevant and in line with the needs required by the job sectors.
This, he said, is necessary in order to give students the practical knowledge as well as expertise that they require before entering the job market once they have completed their studies.

“The present reality is that thousands of unemployed graduates existed in the State today and one of the reasons is that the subjects or fields they studied at institutes of higher learning are not what is demanded by the job market today.
“This is one of the reasons why so many graduates are still unemployed and that the figures are increasing every year as new batches of graduates are produced by various higher learning institutes.
“In the end, like it or not, our graduates have to accept job vacancies in other fields that are different from what they studied.
And this is what we need to act upon in order to fend for our graduates who are future leaders of the nation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jonathan also urged the State Education Department to devise an initiative where graduates could be absorbed into the schools in their area and play special roles in educating school children while receiving pay or allowances.
“This sort of programme should be provided for them while they are pending job offers from other government departments or private companies. This is a win-win situation for many parties concerned in such initiative.
“This would certainly lowered the number of unemployment rate in the state, while at the same time put to good use the knowledge and skills mastery of our graduates, and keep them active and positive while waiting for the right career offers,” he said.
In the Program Sentuhan Kasih @ JPT 2019, various higher learning institutes representatives open their exhibition counters for the students to inquire about their opportunities to enrolled in once they completed secondary school.
