Bersatu hopes to contest Kimanis seat if called
MEMBAKUT: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sabah intends to submit a list of candidates to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders in case a by-election is called for the Kimanis parliamentary constituency.

Bersatu Sabah co-ordinator Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor said there are a number of eligible Bersatu candidates who can ensure victory for PH.

However, he said, it was up to the PH leadership to decide whether or not to cast a Bersatu candidate.

“Whatever the result, we accept it and at the same time we (Bersatu) will support whoever the selected candidate is, be it from a component party or a PH partner,” he said, when officiating the “Program Jelajah Pimpinan Bersatu Sabah ke Bersatu Bahagian Kimanis” at Dewan Kg Pimping, Sunday.

Meanwhile, Strategies and Bersatu Elections Sabah Director Datuk Lajim Ukin, who was also present, told reporters the decision to submit a candidate for the Kimanis by-election was a grassroots decision even though Bersatu Sabah had earlier promised to not claim the seat.

He said the act of not demanding the seat did not represent the decision of Bersatu Malaysia’s top leadership, but rather it is the party’s views in Sabah.

“It’s just our view as subordinates, if the top leadership wants us to compete and submit a list of candidates, we will do it.

“We cannot argue with each other, especially PH and Warisan because Warisan is a PH partner who also contributed to the formation of a government with 8 seats in Parliament and that should be taken into consideration.

“We should also consider many things based on current political scenarios that need to be refined if Bersatu intends to take part in the Kimanis by-election,” he said.

Lajim said he would meet branches of Bersatu in Kimanis to get feedback on support for the Bersatu candidates if given the chance to contest.

“At the same time we are also preparing to assist other party candidates in PH to ensure the Kimanis seat belongs to PH,” he said.

Also present were Bersatu Sabah Assistant Coordinator Datuk Masidi Manjun, Kimanis Division Bersatu Chief Datuk Ariffin Arif and Srikandi Bersatu Sabah Chief, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.
