Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has offered to place a senior MACC officer within the chief minister’s office.

This is as a measure of prevention to ensure there is no opportunity for any system or corruption at state-level, according to its Director-General, Latheefa Koya.

She said this is in addition to the existing integrity unit within the state government administration.

This was among matters raised during her courtesy visit to Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal at his office in the State capital.

Apart from that, MACC has also reminded the state authorities to start doing the declaratory assets by the ADUNS.

She noted that these preventive measures are matters which they think will be more effective than just the mere arrest, remanding and sending individuals to jail.

She also wants acts of using the MACC as a political tool to be stopped, while assuring investigations based on substantiated information will not stop just because someone has come into power.
