BELURAN: Beluran MP Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee, hoped the Government will provide housing assistance to Kg Keramat fire victims, here.

He said this includes giving priority to victims to stay in the People’s Housing Assistance Programme and People’s Housing Project or where any suitable assistance is available.

“I have also written a letter to the government. We hope to receive immediate response,” he said, adding that many of those affected comes from families in need of such assistance.

He said this after a handing over of cash donations to the fire victims at the Dewan Serbaguna Beluran, here, Tuesday.

The donations were provided by the government through the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office and the National Disaster Management Agency.

Also present were the Deputy Prime Minister’s Special Officer Abdul Rahman Yakub, Beluran District Officer Nordin Daling, Samasuddin Kambade who represented the District Civil Defence Force and Beluran Police Chief Supt Kasim Muda.

A total of 23 family heads received RM500 each. The March fire left 89 people homeless. A church was also reported to have been affected by the fire.

On the assistance, Kiandee expressed gratitude for the government’s effort in going down to ground to help the victims involved. He said the aid has helped reduce the burden of those who have lost their property in the fire.

On whether the fire victims are allowed to rebuild their houses at the fire site, Kiandee said it is subject to the Beluran District Council as the village currently holds squatters status.

On another note, Kiandee hoped the Local Government and Housing Ministry will look into the matter and prioritise the construction of a fire station in Telupid which is urgently needed.

Sabah will be among states to receive seven new fire stations and hoped that the construction of a fire station in Telupid will be among the priority.
