Tawau drains not cleared and clogged with weeds
THE Municipal Council will step up efforts to monitor the condition of the drains in a Tawau neighbourhood.

This follows a complaint from a rate-payer that these structures in one part of Jalan Sin Onn had not been cleared for some time.

A Council spokesman said its staff would arrange to have the drains cleared, if this claim proved to be true.

“Our surveillance team will periodically keep an eye on these structures to ensure that they do not become clogged again,” he said.

“Those living in the area can also assist us by letting us know if the roadside drains are blocked.”

He said the drains in those areas under the Council’s jurisdiction were cleared according to a schedule.

“However, if need be, we will step in to have this work will be performed even before the next routine maintenance is carried out.”

SARA, who lives in Taman Shamrock said these structures were clogged with weeds as they had not been cleaned for some time.

“The stench from the stagnant water in the drains is intolerable,” she said.

“I also fear that this foul water has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.”

She said water from the drains overflowed into her front compound when it rained heavily.

“I cannot understand how the local authorities can be turning a blind eye to these irregularities.”

Sara provided Hotline with the location of the drains in question. This information was forwarded to the Council. (SS)
