Tambadaus Malaysia Cup quarterfinal spot slim
Peter wants the players to give their best in front of the fans.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Tambadaus will take on Penang in the return leg of the Malaysia Cup competition here at Likas Stadium tonight.

The team, currently lying bottom in Group C with no point after four matches, still have a mathematical chance to advance as runner-up behind Pahang if they can muster a victory against Penang and also in the next match against Perak.

But this provided that Perak will lose to Pahang tonight while Penang suffer the same fate in their final match against Pahang.

Both Perak and Penang have five points each at the moment and a point from any of them in their two matches will likely see Sabah’s exit from the running for the quarterfinal berth.

At the first leg played at the City Stadium on Aug 7, Sabah were undone by an own goal that resulted in a 2-1 defeat by the islanders.

Sabah Football Association President Datuk Peter Anthony wants the players to give their best in front of the fans.

“There is still a chance for the team to progress. The players should not give up hope and must give their 100 percent on the pitch.

“I want them to produce their very best in front of the home supporters and try to achieve a win,” he said on Friday.

Nevertheless, he admitted that it is a heavy task for the Tambadaus especially when its opponents have better quality imports.

Sabah will finish the group match with another home tie against Perak on Sept 18 at Likas Stadium.
