The Penampang District Council has been urged to replace several damaged concrete drain covers in New World Commercial Centre in Donggongon, Penampang.A concerned member of the public, who brought this issue up to Hotline recently, said the cracks on these structures will get worse if they remain in use for another few more months.

“I saw holes on them while walking along the five-foot way recently and this prompted me to highlight the matter to the relevant authority for public safety,” said STEWARD, the complainant.
He said some of the holes can easily fit the size of an adult’s foot which can be dangerous to unsuspecting pedestrians.
“Imagine if someone sprains his or her foot after stepping into one of these holes and this may happen if the area is poorly at night,” he added.
Other than that, he said the new concrete slabs will prevent litterbugs from taking the easiest way out to throw their rubbish in that area.

“I noticed there are rubbish inside each hole,” he added.
A Penampang District Council spokesman, when contacted on Sept 12, said its official in the Engineering Department would be notified about the matter soon as possible.
