Wild party at Sembulan hotel; 8 girls among held

KOTA KINABALU: City police nabbed 15 people, eight of them females, involved in a wild party during “Ops Sarang” in a hotel near Sembulan on Wednesday.

Acting City Police Chief Supt George Abd Rakman said the individuals were under the influence of drugs at the time of arrest. One was a 16-year-old girl.

“Seven were males aged in between 24 and 29, remaining eight were females aged between 16 and 23. All were tested positive for ketamine, amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.

The purpose of ‘Ops Sarang’ is not only to identify and to take action against drug distribution syndicates but also to fight against drug abuse among youths.

Meanwhile, sixty-five people, aged between 15 and 56, were rounded up here for various drug offences during a weeklong “Ops Sarang” since Sept 7. 

Of the figure, one arrests involved drug supply and distribution, 16 for drug possession and 58 for substance abuse, according to George, in a statement, Sunday. 

“The operation focused in Kg Air around Sembulan and Kg Lobou, Menggatal,” he said. Forty-nine of those detained were locals, while the rest were foreigners. 

“It led to the detention of six individuals for committing an offence under Section 12(2) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and 22 individuals under Section 15(1) (A) Dangerous Drugs Act,” he said.

During the period, he said 30.16 gm of Syabu worth RM1,508 were seized. Efforts to eradicate drug distribution and substance abuse in the city will be intensified from time to time to ensure public order and wellbeing.
