Kota Kinabalu: Strong winds on Friday night caused a 76-year-old grounded ship to be blown to shore near Sutera Marina.

When contacted, a representative of the marina said they were still trying to contact the crew.

The ship named “Orient Explorer”, launched at the height of the Second World War in 1943, has a long and interesting history. It was delivered to United States (US) navy before being chartered to Great Britain and commissioned as “HMS Kilham” in the same year. It has been renamed for quite a number of times. The ship was dry-docked in Labuan Shipyard in 2009 before being anchored in Sutera Marina.
