Thousands throng S’kan food fest

SANDAKAN: Thousands of local and foreign visitors visited the Sandakan Food and Agriculture Festival held from Sept 13 to 15.The festival at Bandar Kim Fung, some 10 minutes’ drive from the city centre was enlivened with various cooking and baking competitions, cooking workshops, food demos and food and craft events.

The festival also featured special dining experiences across Sandakan, in remote and beautiful settings, in the farm-to-table events. From cottage industry products to indigenous recipes, the festival shared a diverse spread for all to sample and experience.

Apart from that, this second Sandakan Food and Agriculture Festival is unique compared to previous events as it was also participated by the Indonesian Consulate General from Kota Kinabalu.

According to its Vice Consul Sartono Hendrarso, they took the opportunity to participate to promote their cuisines and introduced to the locals on Indonesian tourists spots.

“We secured booths area for three local Sandakan-Indonesian restaurants that featured and introduced famous local Indonesian cuisines. The are Sri Wijaya, Minang and Nusantara.

“These restaurants feature  cuisines such as “Bakso Ceker Ayam”, “Gado-Gado”, “Rojak”, “Penyet Bakar”, “Ikan Bahulu Goreng”, “Soto”, “Pisjo”, “Nasi Putih Kremes”, “Burasa” and so forth.

“Apart from that, we also introduce to the local of Indonesia famous ‘Teh Botol’ and looking forward to widely marketed it here in Sandakan too,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Consulate General of The Republic of Indonesia Kota Kinabalu had provided information counter provided pamphlets pertaining to  tourist spots.
