LABUAN: The Lions Club of Labuan Mandarin can heave a sigh of relief when its long-standing project of nursing home is now in the final stage of completion. The approximately RM5 million project namely Lions House of Love was initiated by the club in the late 2012 on a 1.474-hectare land in Kg Layangan and it’s the first of its kind on the duty-free island.ADVERTISEMENT
According to newly-installed Lions Club of Labuan Mandarin President Chin Kin Yin, it would serve as nursing home for the elderly and skilled training centre for children with disability.
“It is a great relief after almost seven years. We are now waiting for the occupancy certificate (OC) from the local authority,” he said at a joint installation ceremony for the incoming officers of the Lions Club of Labuan Host, Lions Club of Labuan Mandarin and LEO Club of University Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) here.
He expressed hope that the Labuan community would be able to share the obstacles the club faced in soliciting funds to turn the project successful.
“We have carried out a number of charity projects for the local community since 1997, including health screening for the needy, youth outreach programmes and importantly fundraising activities for the House of Love.ADVERTISEMENT
“The nursing home will provide day-care centre service to help lessen the financial burden of working adults who have parents that need day-care.
“They can leave their elderly parents in good hands during the day and take them home after their day’s work… the elderly may find companionship at the centre instead of being at home alone,” a statement from the club said.
