3,700 attend Tawau Malaysia Day parade

TAWAU: A total of 107 contingents joined more than 3,700 people for the Tawau Malaysia Day parade held at Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) Square, here on Monday.The contingents included those competing in the Government Uniformed Body categories, Primary and Secondary School Uniformed Units and Uniform Unified Units from associations and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).ADVERTISEMENT
The celebration saw various events other than the parade, including a re-enactment of the “Kalabakan Confrontation Event” from the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM), Tawau Branch, presented by Arifie Kadir.
Also held was a re-enactment of “Battle Against Mundu in Lok Buani, Lahad Datu” courtesy of the Malaysian Retired Police Officers Association, Tawau Branch, presented by Sergeant Major (R) James Penggai Sadam.
The haze, however, did not affect the attendance of the public seeking to celebrate Malaysia Day 2019 here.
Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew, was present to officiate at the ceremony which was also attended by the state cabinet ministers and their assistants, as well as representatives from her constituency.ADVERTISEMENT

She said the harmony among Sabahans and the composition of the people of various races, cultures and religions should be maintained in order to further strengthen the country’s sovereignty and development, particularly in Sabah and as well as Tawau in general.

Liew who is also the Tawau Member of Parliament, said the theme for this year’s celebrations, “Sayangi Malaysiaku: Malaysia Bersih, “is part of the government’s desire to foster the spirit of love and strengthen the unity of the nation towards making Malaysia a prosperous country.
