Kota Kinabalu: Sarawak teams reigned supreme in the 2nd Sabah Open Handball Championship 2019 which concluded at the Juara Sports Arena in Kg Ketiau, Putatan on Monday.They captured both the men and women titles with Seri Kenyalang taking the top honour in the men’s event with a 12-6 win over Projek HB from Sabah in the final.

In the women’s final, Sarawak Sport Corporation (SSC) defeated Victorian HB (Labuan) 9-3 to take the title.
In the playoff for third and fourth place, Rhapsody (Selangor) beat Kijang HB (Putrajaya) 14-12 to finish third in the men’s event while Phantom (Sabah) came away with a 3-1 win over PBB KK (Sabah) for a third place finish in the women’s event.
The prizes were presented by Sabah Handball Association President Vijaya Kumar A/L Arumugam.
He praised all the participating teams for their good sportsmanship throughout the competition.

“The referees and technical officials have also done a good job. Hopefully next year’s tournament will attract more participation from overseas,” he said.

He also expressed his gratitude to Youth and Sports Ministry, MSN, Sabah Sport Commissioner, Juara Sports Arena, Sabah Education Special Schools and TK Enterprise.
