Touching boy’s private part: Tahfiz teacher to go on trial

Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old religious teacher charged with committing sexual abuse against a tahfiz student, will go trial on Jan 16 and 17 next year.Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus set the trial date for Abdul Jumat Sapri when he maintained his plea of not guilty during the case management of his case.ADVERTISEMENT
Abdul Jumat is accused of touching the private part of the 15-year-old boy at 1.30am on Aug 4 in a Surau in Putatan.
The offence under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.
Pending the date, Abdul Jumat was ordered remanded further.
In another case, a 42-year-old man was jailed five years and ordered given a stroke of the cane for taking drug for the third time.ADVERTISEMENT
Wong Lee admitted to taking the drug at 2pm on July 8 this year after his urine was tested positive for drug at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department here.
The court heard that Wong has two previous convictions for taking drug.

After completing his jail sentence, Wong was ordered placed under police supervision for three years.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mas Izzaty Lokman appeared for the prosecution.
Meanwhile, three men were jailed four months for entering the State illegally.
They were Marujun Apas, Zulkifli Marujun and Rosli who pleaded guilty to entering the State without any valid document.
Zulkifli was also handed a stroke of the cane.
The foreigners were arrested during operation around the city recently after they failed to produce their documents.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

After completing their jail sentence, the foreigners were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for deportation.
