Sabah among most active in community programmes

SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Community Neighbourhood Watch committees (KRT) have the will to operate effectively with other government agencies, especially under the Ministry of Health and People’s Wellbeing.
Minister Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung said this include implementing programmes that would promote community economic stability, interracial unity and public safety.

“It is important for the people to have useful information on the function and roles of the Community Neighbourhood Watch (KRT) and its roles in keeping the peace and prosperity of the neighbourhood,” he said when launching the 2019 Community Neighbourhood Watch flag-flying ceremony at Sandakan Community Hall.
Also present at the function were Sabah state National Unity and Integration Department Director, Delin Liet Blaun, Sandakan area National Unity Officer, Jambri Giau and chairpersons of the Community Neighbourhood Watch within Sandakan.
On the programme, he said the close cooperation of the various agencies especially in co-organising programmes particularly in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone), was crucial in strengthening public knowledge on the roles by National Unity and Integration Department.
This programme is aimed at strengthening unity among the multi-racial and multi-religions population as well as to foster love for the country through the flying of the Jalur Gemilang.

“I believe that through today’s programme, the community will be able to use this opportunity to work with all agencies and non-governmental organisations to share their responsibilities as independent and prosperous Malaysians,” he said.
He also urged everyone to be thankful that the country’s security is maintained compared with other countries worldwide. Earlier, Delin said, Sabah currently has 1,060 KRTs.

Among the Community Neighbourhood Watch areas that are located in Sandakan are namely in Beluran (32), Kinabatangan (22), Tongod (9) and Telupid (5).
Sandakan has 1,100 members of the Community Neighbourhood Watch.

On the celebration of Malaysia Day in Sandakan, he said it was a joint programme by the State National Unity and Integration Department together with KRTs to encourage aimed at encouraging the people to cultivate unity and patriotism.
Delin said that over the past year, Sabah has been among the most active in organising community programmes that involved various sector of the society.
