PENAMPANG: New Tech Furniture Sdn Bhd, a recipient of 1Malaysia People’s Choice Shop Award by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry for fair price shop, achieved another milestone Saturday with the opening of its first premium outlet and fifth branch at the International Technology and Commercial Centre (ITCC) Penampang here. The grand opening ceremony of the new 18,000 square metre outlet, located on the first floor of the shopping mall, was officiated by Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Chan Foong Hin. The new outlet offers not only a complete range of furniture products, from branded to the affordable ones, but also electrical appliances, in line with its aim to become a “One Shop For All Home” in Sabah. The company’s other outlets are in Labuan, Menggatal, Putatan and Donggongon. Its Director, Samuel Sii, said they opened the new outlet to cater for the growing property development activities in Penampang, especially apartments and condominium. “We see the growing property development in Penampang, especially apartments and condominiums, so we opened this new outlet to offer products that are suitable for apartments and condominiums, besides others. “We matched the products, its quality and design as well as pricing according to the market demand and the latest trend,” he said, in an interview, adding this new outlet is different from the rest other branches because here they have concept stores for branded products like Australian Auzzie Slzzp beds and Malaysian-made Nicollo sofa sets.

Auzzie Slzzp is well-known brand especially among those who could not sleep well using ordinary bed due to back problems, he said, adding the Nicollo is also a popular Malaysian brand.   New Tech Furniture was founded by his father in 1985, who started from a small furniture shop building built-in cabinets for homes, in Labuan. From there it expanded to become a two-in-one selling furniture products and hardware on the island, before it opened the Menggatal branch, and followed by the outlets in Putatan and Donggongon. Sii said most of their products are priced fairly because the company always do their best to maintain the prices of products offered in their outlet, and they are able to do so by buying direct from factories.   “The prices of our products are not that expensive, affordable for all. We have maintained the prices the best possible, despite all costs and prices of goods and services have continue to rise, because we think why should we sell so expensive until no one can afford to buy,” he said.   Asked the secret of the company continuing to expand amid the current economic slowdown, Sii said the market in general is a bit slow right now but their company is not that affected by it because they have been long in the business. “There is no secret, only that we have been long in the market, so we have many regular customers. Furthermore, our have a warehouse full of stocks which are actually enough for us to open even 10 more outlets...so that is not a problem for us actually.

“And also that the more property developers build homes and offices, the more people will buy furniture products and electrical appliances for home or office,” he said, adding apart from walk-in customers, the company also sell products online via its website and Facebook page since last year. “We also have people buying our products via online purchase, although it is not as many as the walk-in customers now but the numbers are building up,” he said, adding they also follow closely the change in trend or preferences of the people.

“Like now, most of our customers are young people, so we follow according to their preferences in terms of products, while at the same time, also providing for the rest of our customers as well,” he said. The company also provide after-sales services for its customers. When asked about competition, he said so far, they are okay, although they also faces competition in terms of pricing.

“But we get our products direct from factories so we can sell at more affordable prices than most others. This give us more advantages in terms of pricing,” he said, adding presently the company is presently focusing on strengthening its business throughout Sabah. New Tech Furniture Sdn Bhd’s Manager, Kenny Phang, was also present.
