CM: Sabah does not belong to one group
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah does not belong to a single race or religion, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

“Sabah does not belong to the Bajaus only, it does not belong to the Kadazandusuns only…Sabah belongs to the Chinese as well,” he said when officiating the Foh Sang Mid-Autumn Carnival, here, Saturday.

“This is your State and country as well. We must make sure that all Sabahans must work together irrespective of who we are.”

Shafie also reminded leaders to remember those who had voted them into power.

“Those who voted us were not only Bajaus, Kadazandusun Muruts, but also Chinese.”

However, he said, now is not the time to indulge in politicking, especially on race and religion.

“This is very divisive and destructive. The government of the day is for the people, not for a single race or religion,” he said.

To this end, he urged the people to stand together to bring progress to Sabah.

“We must develop Sabah and the only way to do it is by staying united. There should be a mass movement of Sabahans working towards greater cooperation to achieve the agenda of development. That is why we must put aside our racial differences and be an example to the others.”

He said there should be no reason for Sabah not to be developed as an industrialised State as it has the resources.

“More importantly the development is managed well,” he said. And the State’s wealth must be shared among the people.

“The money should be put into the improvement of the public infrastructure and transport, among others.”

Meanwhile, Shafie also disclosed that the State Goverment will soon launch a blueprint for the development of the agriculture sector in Sabah.

“Sabah is blessed with vast, fertile land and we must develop it by planting fruits, vegetables and rear fish. I will also provide more allocation for the agriculture sectore in the next State Budget,” he said.

About 5,000 people attended the event where they were entertained with various performances.

There were also hawker stalls selling food and drinks.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong, Youth and Sports Minister Phoong Jin Zhe, Rural Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick, and other Cabinet ministers and assemblymen.
