Stolen jewellery seized from Tuaran shops

TUARAN: An attempt by three men to pawn stolen jewellery items was foiled when they were arrested, near here, on Sept 16.
The raid, which was conducted simultaneously at 2am at two different locations, is believed to have solved two reported break-ins in the district.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 30, admitted that some of the stolen jewellery items were sold to pawnshops.
The police later seized the stolen jewellery items from the locations and the pawnshops.
Tuaran Police Chief DSP Mohd Hamizi Halim, who confirmed this, said upon further investigation, a complainant had lodged a report pertaining to a break-in in Kg Pogon Lawid, here, on Aug 28.
“In the report, a branded watch, a gold bracelet, a jade bracelet, a branded guitar and RM204 cash were among items stolen.

“The suspects were also involved in two other burglary cases in Kg Tajau and Kg Tutu,” Mohd Hamizi told a press conference.
He said upon further investigation, a police team went to the pawnshops in Tuaran town and seized all jewellery items believed sold by the three suspects.

“Various items, including a mobile phone, four gold chains including one with a locket, a jade bracelet, four gold rings and two pairs of gold earrings were seized,” he said.
He said the three suspects were remanded for further investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code and they could face a fine and up to five years’ imprisonment, if convicted.
