1,000 in the B40 group did not benefit
LAHAD DATU: Only 4,000 out of the estimated 5,000 people eligible for the Health Care Scheme for B40 (Peka B40) in Sabah have benefitted from the scheme, said Urusan Kumpulan Mabello Director, Dr Chia Sia Cheng.

Realising the situation, Mabello mobilised its members to the interior through the group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) to help people through the scheme.

Chia said through this effort, public health could be improved while achieving the Peka B40 goals.

Bantuan Sara Hidup recipients above 50 have been advised take advantage of the healthcare protection scheme provided to meet the health need of the low-income group.

Peka B40, is a government initiative through the Ministry of Health, which provides health screening services, medical assistance, incentives for cancer treatment and transportation fare incentives.

“The efforts undertaken by the Mabello group are beneficial to the target group as we recognise that they face many constraints such as time, energy and cost,” said Chia when met at the health screening programme through Peka B40 at Felda Sahabat.

On the programme, Chia said the programme had cooperation of the Felda management and received good response from the community in the area.

He said the response to the programme exceeded its target and Mabello Group is poised to extend the programme next month to selected locations.

“A total of seven doctors from the Mabello group, two doctors from Peka B40 and 16 staff took part in the programme which provided health screening to nearly 300 people from the area,” he said.

He said the CSR enabled residents in getting free health screenings that specialise in non-communicable diseases.

Meanwhile, Felda’s Assistant Community Development Officer, Rasidah Sani, is pleased with the initiative by the Mabello Group which benefits not only Felda Sahabat settlers and staff, but also the villagers.

She added that the programme also complemented Women’s Day celebration held at Sahabat level.
