BEAUFORT: A new Fire and Rescue Station will be completed within 104 weeks beginning November 2019 as announced by the Sabah State Fire and Rescue Director.
The station was supposed to start operations in February next year but the Ministry of Local Government and Housing Malaysia has expedited its approval earlier than expected.

Officials along with consultant Noor Izwan came with over 20 contractors to brief the quotation to the contractors last week.
The tender will be opened until Oct 15, 2019 and the construction will include building the fire engine bay, control room, hose tower as well as two-storey office.
Mohammed Hasbullah said upon completion, the old fire station will be moved next to the District Hospital and Police Headquarters.
“It must be completed within 104 weeks by the selected contractor and they must comply with the security requirements when entering the premises as they are built near or adjacent to existing fire barrels”, he said.

While the price for the new building has yet to be announced, it is up to the Ministry and consultants when the quotation is released.
Mohammed Hasbullah said the main reason for the new building’s construction is because of the soil sedimentation that caused damage to the building structure in 1979.

“It is for the safety of firefighters as well as the narrow lanes where many of the vehicles are located in the district offices that mostly block emergency routes,” he said.
The district Fire and Rescue Station now has 21 firefighters and assisted by 15 auxiliary firefighters with three supervisors.
