KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Fandylina Adim and Nelcy Tunik smashed 10 national records in total at the ongoing National Weightlifting Championship in Segamat, Johor on Monday.
The 19-year-old Fandylina rewrote the 45kg category’s junior and senior records with a lift of 55kg in the snatch, and 68kg in the clean and jerk as well as the 123kg total weight.

She holds the previous records of 53kg in snatch, 66kg in the clean and jerk and the 119kg total.
Nelcy, 18, on the other hand, who lifted 58kg snatch in the 49kg category set a new and senior clean and jerk record with 81kg, one kg better than her old record, as well as setting a new record in the total 130kg weight.
Both athletes who won two gold medals with their total weights hail from Tambunan with Nelcy under the Project Philippines SEA Games in Bukit Jalil, while Fandylina is based in Tambunan under the Sabah Weightlifting Association (SWA) programme.
Sabah contingent have won five golds, one silver and one bronze as at press time on Monday.

The first gold was won by Calixtus Daunis in the senior 61 kg category with his total of 250kg (110 kg snatch, 140 kg clean and jerk) on Sunday while the silver came from Sherylyne Jounis in the women junior 55kg and bronze in the senior category.

SWA President Philip Gisan who delivered the news on Monday was delighted the athletes managed to maintain their high standard in the national championship.

“I am very pleased with the results, despite the absent of Elly Cassandra Engelbert and Maceeta Maryln Marcus in the competition, who are focusing on the coming Manila SEA Games, we managed to maintain our performance, and furthermore they set new national records as well,” he said.
