Give detailed explanation on PSS, says Sabah Pribumi
BEAUFORT: The Government needs to give a detailed explanation on the Sabah Temporary Pass (PSS) to the people because the function of this document is still blurry.

Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Strategic and Election Director, Datuk Seri Lajim Haji Ukin, said there are a lot of questions on the PSS, specifically on the mechanism of its implementation.

The people want to know the precise contents of PSS, he said, adding only if it can be clearly explained would all the negative perception on it be cleared.

“We support if PSS is capable of reducing the problem of illegal immigrant influx in Sabah. But how exactly the mechanism of its implementation? That is still blurry.

“For example, will PSS enable the holder to work freely in all sectors and wherever in Malaysia? Or it is limited to only  existing sectors in Sabah?

“Is PSS only meant to be given to the holders of IMM13, Kad Burung-Burung and Census Card who have been long in Sabah? How about their family members who do not have any of the three documents?” he asked, after he officiated the closing of the Hari Malaysia Carnival organised by Persatuan Bisaya Bersatu Sabah (PBBS) at Kg Kaundo open hall here.

Lajim, who is also PBBS President, also questioned if PSS would be given to any foreigner who have one of the said documents concerned even he/she just arrived in Sabah, and does the Government’s move to identify all foreigners who have the said documents include those who have stayed long in the State?

“Thus detailed explanation on the mechanism of PSS should be explained to the people so they can understand and therefore feel safe with the issuance of the document,” he said, adding among the things expected from PSS is monitoring on foreigners according to employment sectors without being allowed to change the sector to stop them from moving around.

He said if this is not given serious attention it will result in the local people losing employment because foreigners will be working in all sectors.

“This is among the problems that need to be avoided because employers fond of taking in foreign workers for low wages compared to local people and this situation will get worsen if PSS allows it.

“We have four main sectors in the State, namely the plantation, construction, tourism and industrial sectors, which are currently monopolised by majority foreigners.

“Discussing involving all relevant parties should be made before PSS is to be implemented, to ensure it will not affect the interests of the State and the locals,” he stressed.
