B-Maex returns to Labuan in Dec
LABUAN: The Borneo Martial Arts Expo (B-Maex) will be back bigger and better with its third edition which is set to pioneer the inaugural South East Asia Iska Championship beginning Dec 13 to 15 at Palm Beach Resort & Spa here.

Organising chairman Alvin Chong said his team is looking forward to record another milestone by bringing together various forms of martial arts under one roof.

The long-awaited three-day event is promised to be larger than ever, with more attractions, exhibitors and live tournaments to be enjoyed by martial-arts enthusiasts from all over.

“We are also proud to announce that our annual event will host one of the most-anticipated fights in the MMA scene where the first ever South East Asia Iska title belt will be up for grabs.

“We will be hosting two professional tittle belt fights with the other being the Borneo Iska Championship.... There will be a total of eight to ten title belts to be won including for amateur categories,” he explained.

Some 300 martial art exponents from all over the world including India, Mongolia, Japan, Australia, Iran, China, Brunei and the Philippines are expected to gather for the anticipated event.

The event is jointly organised by Labuan Sport Kickboxing Association (LSKA), Labuan Wushu Association, Borneo Combat Gym (BCG) and Labuan Media Practitioners Association and is sanctioned by the International Sport Kickboxing Association Borneo (Iska Borneo).

Alvin shared that the exhibition aims to provide an opportunity for martial arts practitioners and combat sport athletes to compete in a positive atmosphere on national and international level platforms, cultivating and promoting the core values in martial arts.

B-Maex serves to boost Labuan Sport Tourism as a hub centre in the organisation of top-level sporting events, he said.

“The B-Maex 2019 is the opportunity for all martial arts practitioners and not only regional athletes to come together, because we provide the platform for disabled and deaf athletes to be part of the same competition under one roof.

“In a world that looks for change and inclusion, martial arts demonstrate that the only limitation we can have is in our mind, and that courage as well as passion can make us go beyond our own limits as far as we want.

“That is why this year we are expecting more than 300 exponents across the martial arts field, and practitioners who want to be part of this event to join in,” Alvin told reporters here at a press conference on Tuesday.

Alvin added that this year, the Southeast Asian Championship will demonstrate that martial arts has no limits, and that there are no borders for the sports spirit, nor for the talent of our athletes.

“B-Maex 2019 will be the result of a series of efforts, dedication, passion, discipline, hard work, respect and commitment, one more step to achieve the dream of covering the entire region of Asia and the world stage” he added.

This year’s installation will also feature an unprecedented number of combat sports events to whet any martial arts practitioner and enthusiasts including Kickboxing (K1) for Professional and Amateur category, Forms & Weapons and Weapon Combat.

The line-up for the three-day expo includes seminars, martial art performances, title belt showdowns, exhibitions, a national championship and booths.

The event is said to be a game-changer for the sport tourism industry here and will be able to provide the needed boost for the local sport tourism sector.

The intent to boost the sport tourism for Labuan will also allow the island to gain recognition as a potential hub to host such large-scale events in Malaysia.

Alvin urged Labuanites to continue to support these events which are founded with the aim to give back to the local community.
