KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah weightlifting contingent ended with another national record and two silver medals in their campaign at the National Weightlifting Championship in Segamat, Johor on Tuesday.
Caroline Joachim in the women’s 87kg rewrote the snatch record with 78kg, which was well better than the previous record of 62kg held by Pahang’s Noorshahida Mohd Aiffol Azami.

However, the combined total of 177kg with the addition 99kg from the clean and jerk only won her silver in both the junior and senior category behind Nur Shafika Samsuddin from Terengganu with her combined total of 179kg (77+102).
Sabah finished third overall with five golds, three silvers and one bronze behind Terengganu and Putrajaya.
The other gold medals they won earlier including two each from Fandylina Adim (junior & senior 45kg) and Nelcy Tunik (junior & senior 49kg) and one from Calixtus Daunis (senior 61kg).
Fandylina and Nelcy also smashed 10 national records in total, with 19-year-old Fandylina breaking the 45kg category’s junior and senior records with a lift of 55kg in the snatch, and 68kg in the clean and jerk as well as the 123 total weight, while Nelcy, 18, set a new junior and senior record in the 49kg category in clean and jerk record with 81kg, and the combined total 130kg.

Sherylyne Jounis delivered the other silver and also the sole bronze in the junior and senior 55kg respectively.
The team was led by manager Romulo Sulit with coaches Stephen Gampion, Cornelius Pawon and Arrico Jumitih while the rest of the athletes were Mixxccomoko Philip, Littha Rossi Eld Justin, Anastasia Roger, Debora Peter, Chriseva Bonny, Mark Dylan Marcus, Micklly Adim, Alvan Yeol Henry.

Meanwhile, Sabah Weightlifting Association President Philip Gisan congratulated the team for their achievement and hoped their athletes will continue to maintain their excellent performance at the national level.
“Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches, team manager and technical officials for contributing to the continuous success at the national level.
