Cops warn against not wearing crash helmet
CITY traffic police will come down hard on motorcyclists for not wearing a crash helmet while riding their machine on any public road.

Those who committed an offence under Section PU(A)043/73-004 for not wearing the safety gear in question could be fined RM100.

However, the amount will increase to RM300 if they failed to pay the fine within a month.

A spokesman for the traffic police, when contacted recently, said its personnel would be informed to run several surprise checks at Jalan Kolombong, including its feeder roads, namely Jalan Mangga and Jalan Kilang.

“Wearing a helmet is the single most effective way of protecting a motorcyclist while on a busy public road,” he added.

Apart from that, he said they would also be on the lookout for those riding a motorcycle with a broken plate number.

“They can be penalised for failing to replace the damaged plate or reattach the missing digits on it,” he added.

The spokesman was responding to a complaint by a concerned motorist who came across a motorcyclist riding without a safety helmet on Jalan Kolombong, recently.

“I know nothing can beat the feeling of the wind in your hair while overtaking other vehicles on the road but a motorcyclist could die of a head injury if a car rams into his or her motorcycle,” he added.

He said the helmet could at least take the full impact of a fall is a motorcyclist is hit by a car.  (OV)
