Sabah to assemble a dream team
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Football Association (Safa) acting President Datuk Peter Anthony is confident that they will be able to assemble a dream team for the bigger challenge in the Super League next season.

The management have already started their search for foreign imports on Monday with the presence of Brazilian striker Laerci Gomes Costa and Argentine midfielder Jose Augusto Sardon during the trial conducted at Likas Stadium.

“We are trying our best to assemble a dream team so that Sabah Tambadaus could make a great impact in the league next season. The evaluation of these two players tonight is the start of our effort to achieve that.

“We need to inject quality, experience into the team that conclude the addition of new players either foreign or local imports,” he said after the trials on Monday.

He added that there are more players to come for trials and a decision on them will only be made later.

“There are few more players from outside the country interested to come for the trials and we will observe them thoroughly before any final decisions can be made.

“If we are unable to get any that can meet the requirement from the coming trials then we may try to get them ourselves outside the country, most likely in (South) Korea, Japan and Indonesia until we find the right ones for the team.”

He also said that some of the current players in the squad may no longer be needed in the coming season.

“There are some local import players suitable for the team are interested to don Tambadaus’ jersey next season, and we are considering the options.

“With the coming in of these local imports, some of the present players may have to make an exit and we will make the announcement as soon as possible so that they can find a new team.

“We will try to finalise the squad at least a month before the new season starts in February next year.

“I am very optimistic that with the early preparation and the more time available we will be able to form a dream team not only on the starting 11 but also those on the bench,” he added.
