Forged exit letter: Passport holder charged

Kota Kinabalu:  A passport holder was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here Tuesday with using as genuine a forged letter of authorisation to depart to the peninsula.

Sairozi Darsani pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Afiq Agoes to using the forged document on Sept 24 at counter 9 of the Departure Hall in the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here.

The charge under Section 471 of the Penal Code is punishable under Section 465 of the same Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both on conviction.

The prosecution in applying for a new mention date, offer no bail to the accused as he was a passport holder.

The court set Nov 1 for pre-trial case management.

No bail offered as the accused is passport holder.

In another case, nine people were penalised for committing drug-related offences.

Five of them, Nordin Ismail, Bibi Nur Angele, Pulalun Abd Han, Jonison Johanes and Azizan Inal pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to taking amphetamine and syabu at separate locations here between Aug 26 and Sept 21.

Azizan was fined RM3,000 or eight months jail while the rest were handed seven months jail.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.

The other four people–Parman Abdullah, Jumat Hussin, Wong Lee and Muammar Faizal, respectively admitted to having syabu under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction.

Parman was fined RM3,000 or 12 months jail while the rest were jailed 10 months each.
