SABAH Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is investigating the cause of the fire that damaged substantial parts of their high tension overhead cables in Kampung Dontozidon, Penampang, on Oct 3.
The cables suddenly burst into flames that afternoon, causing panic among the nearby villagers and slowing down traffic flow at the nearby Jalan Dontozidon as some were seen taking videos and photos of the incident.

A SESB spokeswoman, when contacted recently, said its team of technicians scrambled to the site upon receiving a report from authorities.
“We discovered that the cables snapped and some of our equipment were damaged by the fire,” she added.
She said certain parts of the district were hit by a blackout as a result of the fire.
“But we’ve just been told that electricity at these affected areas had been restored gradually that evening,” she added.

LESLIE, a concerned member of the public, said he feared that the constant sparks from the fire would cause damage to the nearby public amenities.
“I feared the nearby transformer will explode if the fire reaches it because the sparks from the burning cables were so bright which followed by loud crackling noises,” he added. (OV)
