Syabu worth RM2,700 seized in Papar

PAPAR: Police here detained four men and seized RM2,700 worth of syabu in a series of drug bust.
For the first case, District Police Chief DSP Batholomew Ak Umpit said the three suspects, aged between 24 and 36, were arrested by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at 11.10pm on Monday following a week long surveillance carried out at a home in Kampung Biau Bongawan.

During the raid, he said the suspects, two with criminal records involving drugs, were found in a room packing drugs where police found 11 transparent plastics containing 33.18 gm of syabu worth RM2,200.
Batholomew said an arrest was made on a 39-year-old unemployed man after he was found having seven transparent packets containing 5.10 gm of syabu worth RM550 at a house in Kampung Padawan.
“The man, believed to be a drug distributor, kept the drugs in a purple container which was in a sling bag that he carried around,” he told reporters at a press conference at IPD Papar, here.
Both cases are being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Batholomew said district police rounded up 866 individuals in a series of drug busts carried out from January to Oct 8 this year and confiscated 247.56 gm of drugs.
He said 80 per cent of the suspects were locals while 30 per cent of them were unemployed while that three were arrested for drug distributions.

“All these cases are being investigated under Section 39A(2), Section 39A(1), Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he added.
He said police will remain committed and resilient in the eradication of any criminal activities, especially those involving drugs.
