Tanjung Aru town woes need attention

CITY Hall has again been urged to consider installing metal grating on the drains next to the public toilet in Tanjung Aru town, to avoid members of the public from getting hurt.
A concerned member of the public approached Hotline on Oct 13, to ask about her previous request to the authority to install drain cover after seeing an elderly man was injured after he accidentally stepped into an uncovered drain next to the meat market in May.

The matter was highlighted to the City Hall in May but so far the drain is still without a lid.
“The man was complaining of pain on his left ankle as a result of the fall,” said ROS, who believe other unsuspecting pedestrians may encounter the same problem later as well.
She said there are many people walking in that area as the public toilets are just nearby.
“I hope the authority can provide cover for this drain before anyone gets hurt,” she added.

Meanwhile, he also pointed out that some of the streetlights at the nearby Jalan Sireh have stopped functioning at night for the past few weeks.
“The facility is important not only to avoid vandalism or theft in that area but it serves good purpose for motorists to see the area much better at night as well,” she added.

A City Hall spokeswoman said the suggestion would be submitted to their superiors for assessment.
“It is advisable for members of the public to be careful while walking in that area,” she added.
She hoped the publication of this issue in the Hotline would catch the attention of pedestrians about the presence of the uncovered drains there.
