Kunak residents hit by water shortage for past four days

KUNAK: Many people in Kunak have been affected by water supply disruption in the last four days.
It involves domestic consumers and traders who have to find alternative sources to carry on with their daily business.

District Water Department technician Yahya Made said, the distruption was caused by a ` now, there are still problems at the treatment plant,” he said.
The areas involved include Simpang Empat, Madai, Kunak town centre, Kg. Kunak Jaya, Kg. Tiga Darat, Kabog, Government Housing Complex, Kg. Getah, Kg. Sungai Atas, Asang, Jaya Baru, Taman Sri Idaman, Taman Kunak Kaya and surrounding areas.
Some users said they hoped the Department could assist by supplying water to their premises to overcome the inconvenience.
A restaurant operator at Kunak Plaza said, he was seeking help from the Water Department to send a water tanker to continue its business operations.

On-premises storage tanks can only last up to two days for kitchen cleaning and cooking, said Baharuddin Sikkandar.
Some laundry premises have also ‘stop operating’ their business due to water shortage.

This has led some consumers here to decide to send clothes to laundry shops in Tawau and Semporna.

Meanwhile, some villagers in the area are looking for alternatives such as nearby river for water sources.
A check by Daily Express at a supermarket in Kunak town found that the RO (Reverse Osmosis) distilled water machine, had to be stopped due to lack of water.
