DBKK looking into Luyang Centre renovation
CITY HALL is looking into a Likas driver’s misgivings about the haphazard manner in which a shop at a Luyang commercial centre is being renovated.

He said passers-by risked being hit by falling debris from the work as no safety nets had been put around the unit.

On top of this, the five-foot way outside the premises was soiled with bits of cement and paint, according to him.

The motorist said the dirt was a nuisance, as well as a danger to pedestrians as the dust could easily cause one to slip and fall.

He provided Hotline with the location of the shop in question. This information was forwarded to the agency.

A City Hall spokesman said the relevant section would be alerted to this problem.

He said the agency’s staff would have to verify the resident’s claims, before proceeding with further action.

“We will also have to determine if the contractor obtained prior permission from us to carry out the renovation and whether the individual is abiding by our conditions,” he said.

MALCOLM of Likas said the pavement outside the shop was a mess.

“I fear that this building material will fall into the drain beside the pavement,” he said.

“If this happens then this structure will become blocked and the water inside might overflow flooding the road when it rains.”

He said no awning or safety nets had been erected around the shop, in this time, to catch any debris from this work.

He hoped the local authorities would act on this irregularity before someone came to harm. (SS)
