Sexual assault on girl: Man to enter defence

KOTA KINABALU: A 42-year-old man was ordered to enter his defence on a charge of committing sexual assault against an 11-year-old girl.Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz made the order for Jasni Sulaiman after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Jasni.

The court set Oct 3 for Jasni’s defence in which he chose to give sworn statement as his defence.
Jasni is accused of committing the offence by touching the girl’s private part between 5pm and 6pm on Jan 7, 2018 at a house behind a hypermarket in Putatan.
The offence under Section under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 carries for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.
The prosecution had called seven witnesses during the hearing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Siti Amirah Muhammad Ali stood in for DPP Nureen Natasha Mohd Raffie appeared for the prosecution while Jasni was not represented.
In another court, a 54-year-old woman claimed trial to committing criminal breach of trust amounting to RM30,348.

Tay Sing Mai @ Tay Seng Moi made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz after the charge was read to him.
Tay allegedly breached the trust given to her as a worker who was entrusted with the payment collection from a customer but had used the money for her own.
The crime allegedly took place at the NCT Forwarding @ Shipping Sdn Bhd office between April 2014 and October 2014.
The court set Oct 31 for case management and Feb 5 – 7 next year for hearing.

Tay was released on bail of RM10,000 with two local sureties and ordered report to Manggatal police station twice a month.
DPP Nur Faezah Jafry prosecuted while counsel Darren Punai represented Tay.
