Eatery ordered to discard dirty mugs
A KOLOMBONG eatery owner was instructed by City Hall to discard several chipped and stained drinking mugs, which apparently were still being used to serve their customers.

The surprise check which was carried out by several personnel from the agency’s Cleanliness and Environmental Health Department on Oct 16, was in response to a public complaint who was taken aback when a dirty-looking mug was served to him while dining there recently.

A City Hall spokesman said its inspection revealed that there were broken and stained glasses found in the kitchen and had been used to serve drinks to customers.

“We also issued a warning notice to the owner to throw away all stained and damaged culinary utensils such as broken cups or dishes which are no longer suitable to serve to customers.

“We will conduct another inspection there after 14 days to ensure that the operator complies with the conditions,” he added.

He stressed that these crockery should have been replaced by their respective owners as they were one of the causes for food poisoning.

“The poison stems from bacteria breeding inside these crockery as they are difficult to clean.

“They can also cause injury to those who drink or eat from these items,” he added.

part from that, he also taken the initiative to sit down and offer some advice and recommendations to the latter on how to look after the crockery in their kitchen.

LESLIE, who dined in that eatery with a friend recently, said they were shocked to see the condition of the mugs when their orders arrived on the table.

“How can they still be serving these plastic mugs to their customers when they are already discoloured?,” he asked.   (OV)
