Jail, rotan for repeat syabu offenders
KOTA KINABALU: Two syabu repeat offenders were jailed five years and ordered to be given a stroke of the cane. Mohd Hazfizi Jumat, 27, and Al-Sadar Vergiano, 34, pleaded guilty separately to the charge against them. 

They were found taking the drug on July 15 and Aug 15 this year after their urine samples were tested positive for drugs at the Putatan police station and police hut in Likas, here.

The charge stated that Mohd Hazfizi and Al-Sadar have previous convictions for taking the drug.

The offence under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and punishable under Section 39C(1)(a) of the same Act which provides a jail term of between five and seven years and whipping, on conviction.

The court ordered both to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests and placed under police supervision for two years.

In another court, four men and a woman were jailed four and five months each for entering the State illegally.

The foreigners pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to entering the State without valid documents.

Two of the men were also handed a stroke of the cane each.

The foreigners were arrested during separate operations conducted by the police after failing to produce their identification documents.

The foreigners asked to be deported to their respective hometowns as soon as possible.

The court ordered the foreigners to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests.

After completing their jail sentence, all were ordered referred to the Immigration Department.
