‘Kolam Dapur’ added to Ko-Nelayan’s aqua park

TUARAN: Ko-Nelayan Laya Laya Mini Aquaculture Park here, on Thursday, launched a new package called the “Kolam Dapur” in addition to its existing “catch-and-release” package.
Sabah Ko-Nelayan General Manager Yusof Awang Besar, said the new package allows people to catch fish, weigh it and buy it, especially the hybrid grouper species, before cooking and eating it on site.

He said the park’s pond is divided into two portions, one for the “catch-and-release” package, and the other is for the “Kolam Dapur” package.
“Water for the Kolam Dapur is treated and prepared for anglers who want to taste fresh hybrid grouper after catching it and buying it at RM38 per kilo, while additional charge of RM2 will be imposed on visitors who require staff services in catching the fish,” he said.
As for the space for “catch-and-release”, anglers stand a chance of catching fish species weighing up to 40 kilogrammes ranging from groupers, barramundi and giant groupers which have to be released back into the pond due to its age (10-years-old).
It is understood that anglers can either bring their own fishing equipment including baits or rent it from a store provided at the park.

“Admission is free and we allow families to bring their own food or to even hold barbecues as recreational activities here.
“In addition, we also have a gallery on K-Nelayan fisheries activity, a hall for conducting workshops or courses, accommodation, traditional dance performances and batik drawing activities,” he said.
