Indonesian cook detained in Labuan robbery

LABUAN: A 39-year-old man was nabbed by Labuan police after he allegedly robbed an Indonesian shopkeeper working at a business premise at the Lazenda Commercial Centre here at 11.10am on Thursday.
The suspect, who works as a cook, was arrested by police early Friday morning, around 2.10am.

Labuan police chief Supt Muhamad Farid Ahmad said during the arrest, police also confiscated a gold necklace and cash amounting to RM638 in the suspect’s possession.
“The suspect, who carried out the robbery in broad daylight, was believed to have threatened the victim by pointing a knife at her.
“He then snatched the gold necklace and bracelet she was wearing and the premise’s petty cash of RM235 in total,” he disclosed.

Farid said the victim incurred losses amounting to RM2,935.

The case is classified under Section 395/397 of Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction. – Iffah Dilaney
