TAWAU: PAS slammed the organisers of the Tun Razak Cup Debate Competition (PTR) 2019 for raising religious and cultural sensitivities in the country.

Central Working Committee member Mohamad Husain, said although the organisers have apologised, they hoped the Ministry of Education will take appropriate action.

This is because the title given by the organiser “Islam does not prevent homosexuals” and “Rewrite of the” is disrespectful to Islam, he said.

“Such matter should not happen, the country upholds and cultivates a culture of caring for and respecting racial and religious sensitivities.

“It is sad that participants in this competition are among Muslim students. In fact, the organiser is also a Muslim and appear to be hostile to Islam itself,” said Mohamad who is Tawau PAS President.

For the record, some parties expressed dissatisfaction with the organiser when choosing a topic that was considered sensitive to Islam.

Ikram Malaysia and the Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Associations were among parties strongly opposed to the debate.

The event was held at Sekolah Dato’ Abdul Razak (SDAR) Seremban, Negeri Sembilan on Oct 14, consisting high school students and from Form One and Form Three.
