City Hall to consider replacing Tg Aru plants
THE City Hall’s Landscape Department will consider replacing the existing ornamental plants at the road divider near the meat market in Tanjung Aru town, following public complaints that the thorny leaves can cause injury to unsuspecting pedestrians.

A member of the public approached Hotline recently to complain about the matter as she also noticed that the plant is in need of maintenance as the leaves have reached the adjacent walkway.

“The prickly leaves are sharp enough to penetrate skin,” stressed ROS, the complainant, who feared that it has the ability to pass infectious material into the wound such as dirt, fertiliser, bacteria and even garden chemicals.

She urged the authority to trim the leaves a few times in a month to prevent it from getting overgrown.

“They should trim it regularly if they don’t decide to replace them,” she said.

She suggested the space to be planted with flowers for safety reason given the high number of people frequenting the area especially on weekends.

“Of course traffic in this part of town is high because it is where the market and public toilet are located,” she said.

A City Hall spokesman, when contacted recently, said its staff would be asked to verify the complaint promptly.

“We have no objection to replace the plants if it are really posing danger to passers-by,” he added.

In the meantime, he said the plants would be trimmed.(OV)
